Sugar Plum Bazaar!

I've been terribly busy getting ready for my first Holiday show of the year - The Sugar Plum Bazaar. This show is awesome...really fun and diverse! So, if you live in Colorado - you've just got to come! I'll be selling lots of cute doll ornaments and tree toppers, as well as my usual fare!

I probably won't have time to post to my blog before the show...but I'll be sure to take lots of fabulous pics of the show in case you miss it!

Goodbye October...

Goodness, time sure is flying by!

I apologize for being so slow to update my blog! October is absolutely crazy for me. I have my son's birthday, his school Halloween parties, then Halloween. It is exhausting!

October is also a bad month for dogs. I'm not sure why, but we always have two or three dog deaths in October. It is that way every year. This year we lost Simon, a 21 year old terrier. We rescued Simon from a county shelter about five years ago. He was blind when we got him, but he could fetch a tennis ball like no sighted dog I've ever had! He was amazing and lived a very LONG happy life. He died peacefully at home on his warm bed. I miss you sweetie.

Simon

We also lost our beloved Great Pyrenees, Truman. He was much more than a dog...he was our guardian. Brave, strong, loyal and beautiful. Truman was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (an aggressive bone cancer) in July. He was only 5 years old. We had him euthanized on November 1st, All Saints Day. I was determined not to lose another dog in October! Our wonderful vet Mary came to our house to do the euthanasia. The weather was beautiful and sunny - Truman was in his favorite spot in the yard and we fed him a last meal of steak. He went peacefully, but it is never easy to say goodbye.

I will miss you big guy, the sun just doesn't shine as brightly without you here. Godspeed and I hope you are running fast and free of all pain. Until we meet again.

Me and Truman

But, as we all know, life goes on even after such tragedy. We were blessed to have this little guy come live at our sanctuary.

His name is George. He is an old, tiny guy...rescued from a county shelter. It warms my heart to see him cozy and safe.

There is always much to be thankful for.

Book Doll Challenge

I'm sorry I have been gone for so long. I have to admit, I not very good at blogging. I just don't always have the time. I run a senior dog sanctuary out of my home, so I'm taking care of 16 oldies at the moment. Last week we lost our beloved Simon who was 21 years old! Also, one of our Great Pyrenees, Truman, has bone cancer and is nearing the end, so it has been very hard.

I also have a seven year old son who is turning eight next week! How did that happen??? We have his birthday party for friends, a family birthday party and then the school Halloween party and then Halloween! Whew!

But in the midst of all the sadness and chaos, I got the latest edition of Art Doll Quarterly in the mail! It features two of my dolls in the Book Character challenge!

Ma Joad from, "The Grapes of Wrath"

Hester Prynne from, "The Scarlet Letter"

I'm so honored and excited to be in this issue. I was also featured in the Fall issue of Art Doll Quarterly and Prims...feeling very blessed!

Day of the Dead...

Anyone else LOVE Day of the Dead?

So FUN to make!

October!

Goodness, it is already October! Time is just flying by! I have a few updates for you!

First, check out my newest dolls at TDIPT Mercantile.

I have a Day of the Dead skeleton doll that is going to be in the "Dia De Los Muertos" show at Studio 12 Gallery in Denver. But guess what? I was in such a hurry to get things done I forgot to take a picture! I'll get on when the show opens on Friday and post it for you to see. I LOVE Day of the Dead, so I'm thrilled about this show.

I also got news that two of my dolls, "Ma Joad" and "Hester Prynne" have been chosen as winners in Art Doll Quarterly's book doll challenge! Hooray! The winter issue comes out November 1st! This is the third magazine my dolls have been in this year so I'm THRILLED!

Christmas already???

Sorry I've been away for so long! I have been making some holiday dolls for those holiday craft show applications!

Here is a sneak peek of some of what I've been working on...

These are little ornament dolls that I make for my holiday shows. They are really cute and sell really well. They are about 7" tall. I'm also making tree-toppers. Can you believe it is that time of year already???

And congratulations to Penny - she won the doll giveaway! She is a fellow dollmaker (and very talented artist). Check out her blog, Art Journey you won't be sorry!

Giveaway!!!!

This is my first giveaway, and I'm very excited! All you have to do is either leave a comment or become a follower and I'll randomly pick a winner. Make sure you have contact info in your post. I couldn't decide on one doll, so the winner can choose from three dolls.

This first doll I call "Waiting on a Friend." She is about 9" tall and sits on a vintage tea cup.

The second doll is primitive mixed media doll. She is 13" tall and holds a nest with some needle-felted eggs inside. Her body is made from a paper cone. She'd be a great tree topper!

The third doll is a birdcage doll. She has pink hair and wings!

If you have a blog of your own, please feel free to post about my giveway...the more the merrier! The contest will end on Saturday, September 15th.
